What did you do this weekend?

May 18th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

This weekend was one of the most productive weekends I have had in a very long time, Other than Friday were I spent all day at the doctors and hospital with Jody and Abbee (don’t worry Abbee is fine) that is.

Saturday I was up by 8am which is a rarity for me, usually I am in bed until at least 10:30am - 11:00am. So getting up early I cleaned up a little, got outside and enjoyed the awesome weather we were having. Went out for a bike ride with Jody and Abbee. We stopped by some friends house and hung out there for a while visiting and then made our way back home. I cooked dinner and then but Abbee to bed and continued with my cleaning adventure. I had a crap ton of old junk in the basement and my storage area’s were starting to bust at the seams so I decided it was time to clean house.

After a while I got interrupted by Jody and then spend the remainder of the night catching up on my DVR, I think I crammed in 3 episodes of CSI NY, 2 CSI Vegas, NCIS, 2 Scrubs, 3 My Name is Earl, and Lost between Friday and Saturday nights. Yes its a lot of TV but with a DVR you cut back on a TON and I mean a TON of tv as you cut out all those commercials.

So then today I headed over to my brothers house/Townhouse and helped him pull two new Cable TV coax lines from his bedroom where the main feed comes in, and pull those lines to his office/loft and his spare bedroom. Because his place was finished off we had to pull up into the attic and over and down into the loft and bedroom. Normally this wouldn’t be so hard and in fact after all said and done wasn’t really that hard, but the damn heat up in the attic was unbearable. Once we located were we needed to drop the lines is was pretty easy pulling the lines as we had four people helping. Once we got the lines pulled, terminated and setup the I had to re-setup his PC that was laying dormant for 6 months, get all the updates completed, install the new version of AVG, and get new drivers installed.

After I got done with my brothers house, I headed back home and finished my cleaning session I started the day before, now my basement normally isn’t a mess but after months of computer upgrades and building I had a pile of parts, boxes, and other misc. stuff laying around, so I figured it was about time to get it all cleaned up. After everything was said and done I pulled out 4 55 gallon construction grade garbage bags full of junk out of my basement, I can’t believe how much shit I had just laying around, but hey now there’s room for more new shit ;)

So until next time…

Gotta Love Comcast

May 14th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

So I have comcast Internet and TV service, and when I woke up this morning I noticed I had a new msg on my comcast box. I generally get these every few weeks or so trying to sell a boxing fight, or a new movie or a new deal of some sorts. Well this was the msg on my cable box this morning:

False Advertising

http://picasaweb.google.com/umdivx/ComcastFalseAdvertising

As said I generally get these types of msg’s every once in a while. Well I see this, and was like awesome faster Internet for cheaper.

Well I call up the local comcast rep (you can see in the # in the picture) and they tell me this is only available for “new” customers. Well if this is only for new customers why the hell would they advertise this to all of their existing customers on the cable boxes? The ad doesn’t say anything about “terms and conditions” doesn’t say anything about “new customers only” nothing.

Also the ad is very misleading, the service is actually 8meg service, NOT 16mbps as seen in the picture.

Someone needs to fix this and I mean fix it now, just sad how they try to pull you in to sell you service, and you can’t even get it. Finally to top it off when I called them inquiring about the deal, they told me I didn’t qualify for this deal, but to fix it the sales lady tried to sell me phone service instead. I don’t need fucking phone service, if I did it sure wouldn’t be with comcast that’s for sure.

I fucking called them for faster Internet NOT god damn phone service.

So in closing you have to love the business practices of comcast, love em or hate em, they have you between a rock and a hard place, what can ya do?

only in my dreams….

May 14th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

So today I was poking around looking at hard drives for my windows home server box, and then I started looking at new computer cases that could accommodate more hard drives, and then I found Sata enclosures that take 3 x 5.25" slots and makes space for 5 hard drives.

So the case I found can accommodate 12 5.25" spaces, so 12 spaces, can accommodate 4 of those enclosures, each enclosure can hold 5 hard drives, so that means I could effectively get a 20 hard drive file server.

Man the things I could do with 20 hard drives…. Specially with the new Samsung "green" hard drives that use 12.2watts of power at full load. I put together a little wish list to show you what I am talking about, enjoy: My File Server Wish List

So what would you do with 20 x 750gig file server?

Ironman

May 03rd, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

So went to go see Ironman last night at the Coon Rapids Showplace 16 theaters and got a two for one. Get there, get our tickets from the Fandango Kiosks and get into the theater. Got the usual over priced junk food and find out seats.

Sitting down I noticed the picture looks WAY different, come to find out they had replaced the projector with a new digital DLP projector and man did that make a difference, I’d even venture to say that the picture quality was better than the IMAX.

So I got to enjoy Ironman which was a great movie in itself but I got to enjoy it on a 100% pure digital theater. I couldn’t have asked for a better movie experience. So if you have a DLP projected theater near you, I highly recommend it, I also highly recommend Iron man it was a great movie. Great times to be had by all.
