Home Theater

Welcome to the Frozen Tundra Cavern Theater. This site will be my ramblings for my home theater addiction. Several years ago when I bought my home right from the beginning my intentions were to finish off the space and turn it into something special, but at the time I didn’t know what. Back in 2004 when I bought my home I was into A/V or so I thought I was. Back then I owned a lowly 27″ crt sd tube tv, a sony home theater in a box setup, and sony dvd player. At that time I thought it was great, until I really saw what HDTV was and how it looked, and ever since then I have never been the same.

Here is where it all started: AVS Forum Theater Construction Thread

Equipment List

Speakers

This is a view of the front of the media room setup. You can see the 106″ Elite 16:9 fixed frame screen, as well as the Klipsch towers and center channel. I also have a pair of the Insignia 6-1/2″ coaxial 2-ways that I modified. Read more about the modifications here.

I use the modified insignia speakers for two channel music listening. I feel at times they give off a nice tone and love the way they sound for music.

Side view of media room setup. In the far right hand corner you can see the built in equipment rack, and the closet door next to it for access to the equipment from behind.

Close up view of built in media rack. *Note* not an updated picture. It doesn’t show the Toshiba HD DVD player or the modded first gen xbox that I have been playing around with using XMBC.

Another Side view but now showing it with the screen.

Ceiling Mounted Panasonic PT-AE900U 720p 3LCD projector. When finishing off my basement I ran two seperate 2″ Riser Gaurd conduit tubing which runs from the A/V closet next to the in wall rack to the projector. I also ran a dedicated and surge protected 20 amp circuit for the projector.

Showing one of the pair of un-modded Insigina 6-1/2″ 2-way coaxial speakers being used as L/R surrounds.

Another view of In-wall A/V rack and closet.

Head over to my Picasa Web Album for more pictures of my Theater/Media room.
